The Jewish Cultural Center of Reading/Berks

The Jewish Cultural Center (JCC) of Reading is an extension of Jewish life beyond school, the workplace and houses of worship. It's the nucleus of our community and its heart. The JCC is where Jewish life is celebrated, a place where we embrace our Jewish connections. It is the hub of education and Jewish culture for people of all ages. It is where we can grow intellectually, spiritually and socially.

 

Combining tradition with fresh programming and activities, the JCC is about serving you, our members, and working together to meet the broader needs of our ever-changing community. Regardless of your spiritual path, we hope you will consider the JCC your home.

 

The JCC offers a variety of programs on site and in the community:

  • The Leo Camp Memorial Lecture and the Richard J. Yashek Memorial Lecture are held annually and cover topics including current events, the Middle East, and Holocaust history. Held on the campus of Albright College.
  • Literatour Berks brings exceptional Jewish authors to Reading from around the country! Partnership with Exeter Community Library and the Jewish Book Council. The 2025/2026 tour begins with Judith Viorst in September 2025, and continutes through May 2026 with ten inspiring authors!
  • Reading Jewish Film Series brings news films to Reading, showing narrative drama, laugh-out-loud comedies, and documentaries on Jewish topics and by Jewish filmmakers. The 2025/2026 Series will run November 2025 through February 2026. 
  • Noontime Knowledge is a free, life-long learning program with topics covering Jewish and local arts, literature, history, and more.  
  • Bus Trips - Bus trips may include visits to New York and Philadelphia for special  museum exhibitions, concerts, and plays. In February 2025, we took a multigenerational group to see the Anne Frank Exhibit at the Center For Jewish History in New York City.
  • Movie Monday - on the last Monday afternoon of th emonth, we show a Jewish movie in our screening room. You'll see a mix of Jewish classics, new releases, and documentaries. 
  • Arts, Culture, and Ideas is a series of pre-recorded talks from the 92nd Street Y, shown to our community monthly at The Highlands (2000 Cambridge Ave., Wyomissing).
  • Great Decisions is an 8-week World Affairs Council course focused on foreign policy challenges that face Americans. Discussions are moderated by local academics.
  • Mah Jongg is a weekly meet up for Mahjong players. The group meets every Monday at the JCC from 1-3pm (except holidays).
